Case Study: Faster, More Reliable Detection of Mycoplasma Infections
A peer-reviewed study compared the DairyGuard® molecular assay with traditional bacterial culture for detecting Mycoplasma species in milk samples from dairy cows with suspected intramammary infections. While culture methods can be limited by the slow-growing and difficult-to-culture nature of Mycoplasma, DairyGuard® demonstrated strong diagnostic performance, achieving 90.8% sensitivity and 87.7% specificity.
In the study population, where approximately 22% of samples were positive for Mycoplasma, DairyGuard® correctly ruled out infection in 97.1% of negative results. These findings suggest that DairyGuard® can help dairy producers identify infections sooner, reduce the risk of herd transmission, and make faster, more informed herd-health decisions.
